Enjoys Camping, golf, travelling and spending time with family and friends
I’m Dyana and camping was something we did as a family; sharing a musty canvas tent in Algonquin park in the early 60’s. It evolved in the late 90’s when I lived in Africa and sleeping in a tent in the wild became the norm and not unlike a regular episode of “Survivor”. When I returned to Canada and met my husband, one of the prerequisites to being in a relationship was that I must enjoy camping. It was a no-brainer. I had just spent years sweeping scorpions out of my tent and contending with large snakes coiling up under the tent floor. I figured I passed. The culture shock and difference in definition is still funny to me... Today I Glamp. My house isn’t as luxurious as our 40’ fifth wheel. Working in Healthcare, I’m a happily married grandma to 7. Loving life living on the shore of the Moira River north of Belleville, Ontario.
Camping has never been my thing, then COVID happened and my husband and I needed a getaway.
We ended up purchasing a small piece of land, a new trailer and enjoyed quiet days and nights in the woods.
Fast forward to 2023 and we purchased a smaller, second trailer to travel with. On day one of owning that trailer we took out bedroom cabinets to change the double Murphy bed to a king bed and we took out the bunk beds so that my husband could have space for his bikes. Crazy…maybe….did it work for us…yes it did!
Our very first time towing a trailer and our very first camping trip at a campground was the ORVO Quinte camping weekend in May. That weekend set our summer up for incredible experiences and stays at places such as Mackinaw Island, Watkins Glen NY, Virginia Beach and Washington DC, plus a few weekend getaways. The knowledge we have gained over the first year of travelling has been invaluable and we can honestly now say we love camping!
Amy is a happily married mother of 2. On her first camping trip, she took her then 2- & 6-year-old children for a weekend at Balsam Lake-alone. She was armed with a borrowed tent and sleeping bags, and a cooler full of food to cook on the fire-only to be surprised with a fire ban at the park! While setting up the tent, a bear came on their site! Needless to say, their dinner that night was a bag of chips! That night they survived a torrential thunderstorm, but woke up to a wet tent, and frantic phone calls from friends advising them of the tornado watch! Amy packed up, but still had to wait out a small twister from the car! Despite the disastrous trip, her kids still fell in love with camping!! Her family has since remodelled their ‘new to them’, 90's pop-up and have all the luxuries, including a water cooler and a Nespresso! Her husband now comes camping, and they do a yearly adult camping trip. A big difference from the cottage she grew up in, but she enjoys camping more!
Lisa-Marie is a mother of four from Etobicoke, ON. She has been camping since childhood. However, started camping w/ her own family in 2002 at Sibbald Point Provincial Park in a tent. In 2009, her family began camping in a small 1973 trailer that they inherited in the Lions Head area of Ontario, and fell in love. They are still seasonal in the Lions Head area but are now in a 1987 Northlander Supreme, lovingly known as The Powerhouse Tin Can. "Our trailer is our home, away from home, nothing brings us more peace, tranquillity, and relaxation, than being at our trailer, w/ our seasonal family. Where we can let our kids, be kids, run, explore, build lasting friendships, and enjoy all the beauty Ontario has to offer!"
I grew up camping with my parents, beginning with a slide-in camper, then a C-Class and an A-Class. As a teenager, I usually slept in an accompanying tent so that I didn't have to wake up at dawn for access to the table...no way I was sharing a bed with my sister (slide-in & C-Class) or to put up the couch (A-Class). Our family spent many years traveling around with a race team in Ontario and New York.
I now have a 19ft, 2019 travel trailer and pull it with a 2020 Ford Ranger. Have only camped between Ontario and Newfoundland since I've owned it, but hope to travel out west in Canada and into the United States, once we retire. I mostly boondock at this point but plan to spend time experiencing campgrounds in the future.
Married with 2 teenagers, 3 cats and work as a virtual Admin Assistant & Social Media Coordinator with Admin Slayer, which makes camping anywhere with internet possible. And in case that doesn't seem busy enough, I also run an AirB&B in Codroy, NL.
My parents instilled in me a love of RVing from a young age. I have wonderful memories of camping with family and friends. Now retired, my husband and I love to explore our beautiful country and enjoy meeting fellow campers. Bon Echo Provincial Park is my happy place ❤️ I have been an ORVO moderator since the fall of 2023. Au plaisir de vous rencontrer sur la route! .
